I told him I had worked with a man from Argentina who told a similar story. “I didn’t know English and I had very little money.” He explained that the first couple of years were very difficult but he managed to get work as a security guard and learn some English, both of which helped to get him established. As usual, I simply asked him to look directly into the lens of my camera and told him I would take a few photos. The photos went smoothly and I told him not to bother moving or making any particular pose. Checking the spelling of his name, he said “Gabriel, like the angel” with a smile. I gave Gabriel one of my contact cards and put down my coffee on the curb. I introduced myself and my project and he readily agreed to participate. I thought he would be an interesting person to meet and would make an interesting street portrait for my Human Family photo project. I later found out he was waiting for the owner of one of the shops to open up. This man, a painter, was sitting on a stepladder taking a smoke break. The colorful shipping containers that house a variety of take-out food and related mini-shops for students were still closed. I was passing by the University Student Learning Centre this morning and saw it was too early for the market across Gould Street to be open. Non so proprio cosa ti risponderei, dovresti spararmi un luogo decisamente accattivante perché sennò non ci penso proprio a togliere i pantaloni della tuta. Specie quando ho ancora un po' di jet lag. La casa mi azzera ogni volontà e voglia di fare.
Regredisco allo stato larvale come tutte le volte che sono costretto a casa dalle vacanze.
Ma vorrei studiare di più francese in Francia. Non ho ancora fatto i compiti di francese, vediamo domani. Intanto, comunque, poltrisco da buon vacanziero. Ultimi scampoli di ferie anche un po' alla faccia di chi ha già ricominciato ieri: io ne ho ancora fino a domenica ma forse anche lunedì, lo scoprirò almeno sabato quando mi degnerò di guardare la webmail con il piano ferie.Ĭomunque siamo sopravvissuti, business as usual, al recente capodanno con ancora un po' di jet lag ma senza aver preso nessun jet che bisognerebbe di far svanire piano piano ma che francamente non ho proprio voglia e quindi pagherò caro, carissimo, tutto ciò settimana prossima.Į oggi pomeriggio ci andiamo pure a tagliare il ciuffo ché ormai è dotato di vita propria (e quanto sfida la gravità! E quanto si arriccia in una grande voluta barocca che si protende verso curve e direzioni sempre diverse), così per qualche settimana ritornerà a dimensioni più umane e gestibili.
